A combined Phase I and II geoenvironmental assessment was undertaken at the old farm site to address contamination concerns and inform redevelopment plans. The site, previously used for agricultural purposes, was earmarked for the construction of new farm buildings and infrastructure. Initial investigations identified potential contamination risks related to historical fuel storage and other sources across the site. During the assessment, shallow windowless sample boreholes were drilled with a focus on areas of concern. The chemical analysis on these samples revealed elevated hydrocarbon levels indicative of diesel or heavy oil contamination. These findings presented potential risks to the construction workers and future users.
To mitigate the risks, our report recommended the removal of impacted soils under the supervision of a geoenvironmental specialist. Finally we recommended verification of the remediation process by following laboratory testing to ensure the site remains clean and safe.
